Ann's Salsa

Ingredients

  • 8 fresh garden tomatoes (if you don't have enough fresh tomatoes, you can use 4 fresh tomatoes and 1 can of diced tomatoes)
  • 1/8 - 1/4 onion (depending on size)
  • 1 small clove garlic
  • Juice from 1/2 a lime
  • 1 bunch of fresh cilantro (about 1" in diameter)
  • 1/4 red bell pepper
  • 1/4 green bell pepper
  • 1 Tablespoon honey
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt (to taste)
  • 1/4 teaspoon cumin (to taste)
  • 1/4 jalapeno pepper (spicy, to taste) or anaheim pepper (less spicy, to taste)

Instructions

  1. Prepare Tomatoes: Put tomatoes, cut into fourths, into a blender.
  2. Chop and Add Vegetables: Chop onions, garlic, red and green peppers, and cilantro. Add them to the blender.
  3. Add Heat (Optional): Add jalapeno or anaheim pepper if desired. Leave it out if you prefer a mild salsa.
  4. Add Flavorings: Add lime juice, honey, salt, and cumin to the blender.
  5. Blend: Pulse the blender a few times on high until everything is chopped but not pureed.
  6. Taste and Adjust: Get a corn chip and taste the salsa. Add more of what's missing to suit your preference.
  7. Enjoy! Enjoy while it lasts ; )

Ann's Secret Tips:

The secret to this being so good is using *fresh tomatoes* and *fresh cilantro*. Use tomatoes that are *firm*, not hard and not squishy. If you're not sure if they're good, taste them! You can't use bad ingredients and still get a good finished product. Good luck and be prepared to have this requested over and over! After making this, restaurant salsa will never be good enough again (unless it's fresh mango salsa).
